Bhutan (in progress) The Infinite
  5 feet by 5 feet oil  2008
Inspired by trip to Bhutan. Central couple represents the creation.
On right arm is the sun with a superimposed human brain with the neocortex,
all being sucked into a black hole. The creation figures as well are being sucked into the mouth
of a monster with great white tusks and teeth of lotus leaves. The pig (ignorance), the snake (hatred),
and the chicken (envy) are devouring each other. Upper right is the Bhutanese symbol for Ohm.

PAINTED BONES 2008

"I have been collecting bones, particularly skulls, for years while on nature walks. As a surgeon, I am
interested in anatomy. As an artist, I find the bones intriguing natural forms. While walking in the African
bush this past year, I saw many exotic bones on the ground. I picked one up and painted designs on it.
Since then I have painted all kinds of bones, including local deer and alligator. Painting bones is an
intimate way to keep me connected to my nature."

Aniche
30 x 40 oil  2008
Image of Charleston: with destruction comes change (aniche). People isolate themselves with drugs, overeating, violence, money, sunglasses, and IPods, unaware of the ocean crashing in.
The barrel of a handgun in the center of the painting discharges a bullet at the viewer.
The Carolina Paroqueet, now extinct, is ridden by the violin player.
